Battery Charge Status not reporting correctly? (KDE Community Edition)

Sounds like it might be possible without an SD card, using a serial cable and something called FEL mode, but sounds a bit of a nightmare. Hope pine64/somebody comes to your rescue so you don't have to wait for a new phone.
