If you re-read my above message... you'll notice that it was in relation to android, not linux :-P My standard test remote, a 21 key NEC command code emitter, operated 7-8 functions on the android build... scrolling the menu, changing the volume, and putting the system into standby from the remote. Obviously all the buttons would have worked if I was using the correct IR codes for all the buttons.
And I don't have an /dev/input at all... as I have no keyboard plugged in, and there is no definition for the IR receiver, so the kernel doesn't know anything about loading the IR receiver (yet). However, since it works on android, it is merely a configuration issue, and a minor one at that. Since the current build for the rock64 linux distro is now 0.3.1, we've got a little while to go before such luxuries as the IR receiver should be expected to work out of the box
