I am glad to hear that RK3566 development is coming along nicely. Some times I am happy to be wrong! 
In the meantime I also spoke to some other devs who told me that, in many ways, much of the work done to get RK3399 mainlined sort of 'paved the way' to allow other SoC (like RK3566, etc.) to get mainlined faster.
Having said that, my original comment was from late march and here we are now in December. I still stand by my general point, although maybe it's not 'years' nowadays. I just see way too many people getting excited about product announcements and hype, when in reality all the costs/work are in software development, without which any of these SBC are just paperweights. And the burden of this work falls on 'the community' who are usually supported very little to none by these SBC manufacturers. This is a long-standing issue in SBC community which needs more attention IMO, which is why I try to bring it up (and also to temper expectations).
