Rocklobster covered the basics already, I just wanted to add that if you are going to be playing with SBC, it is a very good idea to get yourself a serial adapter. They are a tremendous help in several ways; not just when things go wrong, but also for testing, development, etc. And they are only a few bucks each. In fact get 2 or 3, "just in case."
