I am guiltily still waiting to find a time to actually hack on my PineCone Sad I intend to use your book to get started. The plan is to potentially use it as a controller for high-speed mass storage: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=13301

I came across this just the other day, it may be of interest: http://web.cs.ucla.edu/~omid/Papers/Hotnets19.pdf It's basically BLE rolled into WiFi, it could be interesting to investigate on the PineCone.

Thanks! That's a really interesting use case. I'll probably be stuck on LoRa for a while because to make it really useful, I need to support LoRaWAN and The Things Network. [emoji846]

@lupyuen I am becoming more and more curious about these LoRa networks, I read they are pretty cool. I have some questions if you don't mind?

1. What is the expected range in a built-up urban location? I see people quote 10km, but what could you realistically expect to see?

2. Are there some rules around how much you can use the communication? Are you expected to give way for example to allow other people to communicate?

3. If it is a mesh, do you select a target node in the network and rely on other people to relay your message?

4. Can the mesh be connected to the internet to further its range, or is it intentionally left off of the internet? For example, LoRa -> LoRa -> Internet -> LoRa - meaning you could communicate well outside the range of your mesh network?

5. Again if it's a mesh, what kind of routing protocols are being used? Is there some limitation of how many devices can be in close proximity?

6. Is there some unique ID for each device?

7. Is encryption allowed on the network, or must the traffic be unencrypted? At the very least I hope that signatures are allowed?
