Success with Tracfone on PPP?
#1
Question
Hello all,
I have set up my PPP following @mikehenson's  guide. I have everything I need in order to daily drive the phone working. With the exception of mms. Unfortunately I have to have mms working in order to daily drive it. I initially thought the issue might be something I didn't configure correctly, or something in the software side of things. I have since come to the conclusion that it must be a problem on the Tracfone side of things. I am using T-Mobile through Tracfone as my provider. I have data and sms working, I just can't get mms figured out. I started off using T-Mobile's APN and MMSC settings, however though I had sms and data I could not send or receive mms. I then tried Tracfone's recommended settings, and the settings listed here, both with the same results. I've also tried many other combinations of APNs, MMSCs, and Proxies from all over the web. I think part of the problem at least might have to do with the Verizon Migration of Tracfone, and the resulting chaos of the transfer, but I don't know for sure. This brings me to my question: Does anyone here use Tracfone on their ppp, or have any experience with it? If so how/did you get it working, and with what settings? Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tag!

I have noticed that I can not send or receive MMS if I am connected to a WiFi network... I can turn off WiFi and MMS goes out and comes in.

There are 2 locations that an APN and MMSC needs set.
Chatty >> Perferences >> Protocal >>SMS/MMS

System settings >> Mobile Network >> Advanced >> Access Point Names >> T-Mobile

Thanks for the response, I did double
check, and all the settings are the same in chatty and system settings.

What ADSP version do you have on the EG25 modem?
What firmware do you have on the EG25 modem?

ADSP version are the binary blobs that talk to the towers. 01.003 works well the T-Mobile.
Here is a good table to look at. [1]

You have 2 options on the firmware, stock or Biktorgj.

I have:
Device: PinePhonePro (Daily driver)
OS: DanctNIX Arch with Phosh
Carrier: USA - Patriot Mobile (T-Mobile SIM)
EG25 Firmware: Biktorgj 0.8.0
ADSP Version: 01.003

I have all the same as you listed, with the exception of using T-Mobile through Tracfone.

I also think your problem is due to the buy out of TracFone Wireless, Inc. They claim only Verizon [1] [2] now.

When you swipe down, what does the Mobile provider show. (I believe this is automatic. I can not change this in the settings)

If it is Verizon, maybe try those settings in chatty[3]. It looks like other people have had issues with TracFone[4].
