Customized Notifications - Non-native Apps

Hello there,

does anybody know, if there is currently a way to get customized notifications for non-native apps? The list in "Settings-Notifications" is not complete and I'd like to add one or two apps - like Cawbird or Axolotl.

X-GNOME-UsesNotifications=true

to an app's .desktop file makes it show up in the notification settings. But to have an effect I believe the app has to implement this correctly as described here.
