Observations about SIM card recognition and OS distribution - lsitongia - 02-27-2021

I got a 3gb Mobian yesterday. While I was trying to get my Google Fi nanoSIM in the white plastic adapter and into the phone, I broke the right-most prong of the SIM card socket. Bummer. I had it for about 15 minutes at that point. Anyway, I went about soldering it back on. It didn't work. I couldn't tell if it was the hardware or software. In flashed Manjaro+Plasma, and the SIM card was not recognized. I flashed postmarketOS latest test distro, and the SIM is good! I can phone and text. So, my solder job is good, the Google Fi is recognized without effort (I use it in an iPhone and Android phone, freely moving the SIM around and it works in everything I've tried).

I installed the latest full pmOS with Plasma, and the SIM is not found. Went back to the test image and SIM is found.

Works:
20210227-0911-postmarketOS-v20.05-phosh-5-pine64-pinephone

Fails:
20210224-0054-postmarketOS-edge-plasma-mobile-3.3-pine64-pinephone-installer

Works:
Manjaro-ARM-plasma-mobile-pinephone-beta2.img.xz

There was an EG-25 update that broke the modem connection a couple days ago in Manjaro Phosh. Switching to the unstable channel fixes it then you can switch back to the stable channel. Plasma on the other hand is a total mess. There are patches to make it work but only temporarily.

I just tried with beta2 of Manjaro Plasma. It's working there. Tried a phone call and that worked fine. Now, to figure out which of these apps is the SMS text one... Confused

Lets see if it works after a reboot? Wink

Working for me. I was surprised when I received a text from someone!

The beta6 of Manjaro Phosh works, so I'm going to declare this resolved.

Thank you. I'm okay for now. My solder job is holding. I'd rather not cost Pine64 more. I'd rather the money go to more of your work than giving me a little repair and end up with my mainboard disposed of.
