For example I am using PC with CPU from 2002! xD I am not going to buy a new PC every year. This doesn't mean I am not sitting in front of a PC like ~10 hours everyday. this decline of sales is a sign of market saturation and not even close to "PC disappearance". I'm doing some audio and video editing and processing and I haven't seen a bunch of ARM systems to supply the needs I have. Intel and MS along with others do have all the hard and software I need to do the job quickly, effortlessly and fairly cheaply. If any of you know where I can get ARM systems and apps to do that job please direct me to them. I'm new to ARM boards, I don't have the experience most of you people do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I agree the sales of prepackaged systems are dropping, most of the people I know are opting to build their own high end systems because Dell, HP and all the rest are just pushing bland cookie-cutter systems suitable for Grand Ma. As it was in the beginning when I was young and we switched from DOS to GUI OS's it's the gamers that are driving the market and product development today. RE: Windows 10??? - z4v4l - 08-31-2017 I am not as experienced too, and my use case is on the other end from yours (i am trying to do my hobby OS/FW stuff on these borads), but I guess It's early for arm boards to provide audio/video editing capabilities. As I understand, these require powerful workstations. Maybe some Nvidia (pricey) things like Jetson. I've been using an i7 build I did a few years ago, now with the release of the Coffee Lake series I'm considering doing a new build to reduce render time. I'm using my Pine64 more like a Bad Ass tablet with way more functionality. I jump from Ubuntu to Android and back with the PlayBox. Computer companies can only stay in business if they produce a product which cannot be produced by a 13 year-old kid in his mother's basement. Almost anyone can build a Sparc server (equiv), or Sparc workstation (equiv), from off-the-shelf parts and free OS in a weekend. Although not too many folks can build a server farm like Watson, or Blue Gene, any time soon for any amount of money let alone off-the-shelf parts. Sparc was a cool little box (twenty years ago) but its time has come; and frankly speaking, my rock64 is cooler ! |
