Announcement: DietPi for PineA64

DietPi for Pine A64: Give your Pine A64 some lightweight justice.

DietPi for Pine A64 is currently based on longsleeps's excellent simpleImage (U-boot + BSP kernel) with Debian Jessie (arm64) debootstrap (according to these instructions: https://wiki.debian.org/Arm64Port#Debootstrap_arm64 ).  The DietPi also make use of longsleep's u-boot and kernel update scripts to keep in sync with his ongoing development work.

As we still have some issues to iron out with Kodi and VNC and the kernel is still in development, DietPi for Pine A64 is currently in Alpha. Please report all bugs/issues on these forums or via a Git Ticket: https://github.com/Fourdee/DietPi/issues. 

ALPHA notes:

• DietPi will release updates and patches on a regular basis which can be applied by running dietpi-update. This will allow you to instantly patch your system without having to writing a new image each time.
  
• Kernel and U-Boot updates are automatically applied with dietpi-config and utilize longsleep's update scripts.
  
• All non-GPU related software appears fully functional in the DietPi-Software catalogue: http://dietpi.com/software. So server based installations should not experience any issues.
  

NOTE:  I finally got a 512MB board.  This image appears to not work on these yet.  This has been corrected.

Known Issues

• Kodi: Not working at this time
  
• LXDE: Requires 16/24 bit to function (use 24bit for both LXDE and Kodi).
  
• BlueTooth: the bluetooth portion of the wifi/bluetooth board has not been tested yet.  This is on my ToDo list.

I assume that you're referring to the VNC issue.

We currently support TightVNC for remote desktop because it incurs a 1.5mb install hit (note the "Diet" in the name), but TightVNC has a known bug in 1.3.9 for the arm64 binaries.   To maintain consistency with the other builds, I'm trying to stick with VNC at the moment.

I've gotten around the problem by using vnc4server, but that is a 9.5mb hit.

I'll look into xrdp, though as another solution.... possibly an addition, rather than an alternative.

Thanks on the awesome job. When your team needs more Pine A64 board or accessories such as camera module and LCD panel, just PM me and I will provide.This is the least way that we says thanks to developer.

just joined the Fuzon forum and installed DietPi on my brand new PINE A64+, 2GB. Everything is very easy and goes smoothly, thank you. 

One thing I was missing after install was LMS  and Squeezelite.  I've been trying several images to install LMS with no luck. Any chance of adding LMS to the software list in the near future?

I'm glad that it's working for you.  Be sure to run the "Update Firmware" option in dietpi-config to insure that you have longsleep's latest kernel.  you can do this simply by running:

dietpi-config 3

and then selecting "Update Firmware" from the menu.  Then exit and reboot.

regarding LMS and Squeezelite, there are others in our group that are more experienced with the various media applications.  So, please make a request in the Requests section here:  http://dietpi.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=12 and we'll look into the addition.

I tried it out - ran through all the wizards, setup LXDE (XFCE4 would be nice as a choice)...  rebooted - and nothing out on HDMI...  didn't bother trying to trouble-shoot and reverted back to the Debian image I was running on another SD card...

And even then - still had approx the same memory footprint as the Debian XFCE image before logging in to XFCE (i.e. just running lightdm)...

Can you please tell me which board you have?
Also, what was the last thing installed before you lost HDMI output?
