I think NuttX for the PinePhone is not yet ready for prime time, it is still under heavy development. Also keep in mind that this is one person's project that currently seems more focused on documenting the effort of porting the operating system than on the actual ported operating system, and that even when finished, its aim is only feature phone functionality, not smartphone functionality. And you should not need any debug cable to install any kind of OS, let alone to try it out, that is what microSD cards are for. If there is not yet a NuttX image that can run from microSD or eMMC, that is a clear sign that the OS is not usable yet.
IMHO, an RTOS makes more sense on a device like the PineTime that has insufficient hardware specs for a full-fledged operating system than on the PinePhone that can run GNU/Linux just fine.
Don't get me wrong, the NuttX port is impressive (especially considering that it is done by one person) and has an educational value (due to the detailed step by step documentation of the port development). I just do not see myself running that as the primary operating system on my PinePhone any time soon.
I have the same issue, can't get trough "User Configuration"...
