Hello,

I have been trying to get adb to work on my Pinephone. The current UBPorts build ships adbd:
https://gitlab.com/ook37/pinephone-pro-d...=heads#L31

My understanding is, that "Developer mode" and switching to/back from it is taken care od by usb-moded:
https://gitlab.com/ook37/pinephone-pro-d...=heads#L38

This requires configuration, as documented in https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/c...wikis/home

My current problem is to find these configuration values for the PinePhone(s). Ideally for all editions.
I have tried looking through the forums, this is what I found:

* https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=16087
This thread seems to end with "you shouldn't want adb anyway", but that doesn't really answer my problem: I do want to enable adb, and I think I should be able to.

I thought I might be able to pull this configuration from an AOSP image, since it seemed like the PinePhone Pro came with one pre-installed.
I have looked for it in this thread: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?...705&page=2 but as mentioned in the last message, the links are now dead.

I have also looked for it in both
https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_S...e_Releases

Neither page seems to have it. pine64-pinephone-plamo-beta-factorytest.img.xz is a postmarketOS image

Hi
I will try to sum up the things that Oren & Co over at

https://t.me/utonpine

is doing and the things you need to do to have the best exprience on your pine64 device.
The focus at the moment will be on Pinephone, Pinephone Pro, Pinetab and Pinetab 2.
This post will be updated when new things gets developed.

PINEPHONE & PINEPHONE PRO
You need Tow-boot on the emmc to install Ubuntu touch on your phone:

https://tow-boot.org

These procedures is still valid to install UT on your phone:

https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/...stall-3889

Here you will find the latest version to install:

https://ci.ubports.com/job/focal-hybris-...ob/master/

From Oren on Telegram channel:
These are our images, ready for your usage, building daily. I’m still figuring out how we will have these distributed. I’ll be updating my gitlab page, the pine64 wiki, and the ubports wiki in the next few days pointing to here, most likely.

You can select last successful artifacts or click on the “+View” button, then click to download the .raw.xz file of your respective device. then flash it in the same way as our downstream images.

Please note: these are still r/w and still have to be upgraded through apt. However, you should notice multiple improvements with ContentHub, the modem, and even GPS support.

For the moment apt is working on these devices.
To update your phone, run this in the terminal on your phone:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y
Enter your password and press enter

This is done between the releases that Oren makes on his Gitlab page.
To have the latest version of UT, always make a new, fresh install of the latest version from Orens Gitlab page.
These are not pushed through apt. This will persist as long as we don’t have OTA on the phones.

It is recommended to update the modem(SDK) and its firmware(ADSP).
You need to have ADB and Fastboot installed on your PINEPHONE to install these:

https://github.com/the-modem-distro/pine.../tag/0.7.2

https://github.com/the-modem-distro/pine...ARRIERS.md

The Modem-SDK release version 0.7.4 is more buggy/instable than 0.7.2.

The modem is like a computer and it talks adb and fastboot, that is why you need adb and fastboot installed on your phone.

If your carrier is not listed in the table on the ADSP-page, you’ll have to check which firmware that works best for your carrier. I don’t know when the table over the carriers was last updated, newer versions of the firmware could be a better experience.
If your carrier isn’t listed and you install a firmware that works with your carrier, please make a pr so it gets on the table.
On this Github there is a lot of help to get things set up in the right/best way, Such as Flashing, Settings, How to, etc. Please read it.

Oren have made a Help guide to help you along the way of tinkering with your phone/tablet:

https://gitlab.com/ook37/pinephone-pro-d...Help-Guide

PINETAB & PINETAB 2
According to the 0.8 release, both the Pinetab and Pinetab 2 have U-boot preloaded, they don’t use Tow-boot to boot.

Here is the latest version of UT, 0.10 in the writing:

https://gitlab.com/ook37/pinephone-pro-d...ases/v0.10

It worked fine. Then I tried to install LibreOffice with several methods:

https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=16614

None of them worked. I thought that there could be a memory problem, because I received several error messages regarding this topic, so I decided to reinsall Ubuntu Touch with the above method.

But when I connect my PinePhone via JumpDrive to a running Echer software

- and I want to select a target, I can see the 32 GB SD external card with JumpDrive

then I see another JumpDrive USB device with 15 GB with drive letters D – Q (10 differnt drives). When I unplug the usb cable of the PinePhone, the 10 drives dissapear, as well as the external card with JumpDrive.

I am confused about the 10 drives on the PinePhone. They where not there during my fist installation. My goal is to reinstall Ubuntu Touch. But which target drive shall I choose? This is confusing. Or is there a way to reformat the PinePhone to get rid of the 10 drives? .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf0zwq6jI30

Or is there a way to reformat the PinePhone to get rid of the 10 drives? .

It's been a while since I used my pine phone (original ubports editing). Decided to dust it if yesterday, installed the latest stable build I could find, then updated too the latest development build. 805 has been working great. Now that I have not tested any cellular functionally, but everything else seems to work great. I was able to add a Google account. Now my calendar,
and contacts are up to date. The Gmail app works. The music player works (on board speaker is not great, but pair it to a bt speaker and it sounds great. That leads me to the next point, Bluetooth seems to work. Wifi works and stays connected with the screen off. The only problem with the wifi seems to be that it promptis for a password when you leave the wifi range and come back. Battery seems pretty good, although having it on overnight, even in sleep will drain it. Maybe soon work is still need on deep sleep.

I was also able to install syncthing and get it to sync my music to my SD card. Awesome.

I just downloaded and installed 807. Will give that a whirl and report back if I notice and differences.

One more thing. The main camera seems to work, at least it opens and shows the preview. I can't switch to the selfie camera though. Quality is not great, but I don't think it's a super high res camera anyway

Plex app works, although the interface is not pretty like on Android or desktop, I was able to start a movie and it played flawlessly. One problem is that the screen kept going blank when it ruined it. Would be great if it was smart enough to prevent sleep when a video is playing.

The GPS doesn't seem to work. Not sure if you still have to do the work around, but I tried both pure maps and unav. They both start, but neither one could find the GPS.

So I tried the GPS work around, but no joy. Unav still gets stuck waiting for GPS. So it looks like that still doesn't work on 809

Phone, and SMS functions just fine. Just no internet.

Hi,

I have a PinePhone running Ubuntu Touch, and I would like to access my files via File Manager that are on a 16 GB microSD card (formatted to FAT32). The SD card is mounted (it's on /media/phablet/FEA5-90D8 ), I'm able to reach all files via terminal, and I can see for example the pictures via Gallery application, but File Manager app shows nothing (just a blank screen) when microSD is in the phone.

For example if I would like to open and watch a video with Media Player or Video Player application, and I choose File Manager to add/open content, then I get blank screen, as well.

Any solution for this? Should I unmount and re-mount the microSD to a different folder?

Thanks!

I searched far and wide, and couldn't find anything about this exact phenomenon, though one other person talked of it "crashing the phone".

I do the OTA updates almost daily, and I've noticed that the first time I try to start Dekko 2 after an update, it "crashes the phone", or forces an OS (UI) restart. After the Dekko forced restart, I can open and close Dekko 2 at will, as many times as I want. This led me to experiment, and I found that it's not strictly after an OTA update, but anytime I do a full restart for any reason, the next time I try to open Dekko 2 it will force it's own (UI) restart, then after the Dekko forced restart it's fine.

Is anyone else seeing this issue, and more importantly does anyone have any idea why it would be happening?
