no sound over HDMI - mbjpine64 - 05-01-2016

Very happy to receive my 2GB Pine 64 (in India!). Loaded UBUNTU and got started flawlessly on the first go.
connected HDMI to HD TV , USB kbd n mouse, wired ethernet LAN, powered thro cellphone 10000maH power bank.
However when running You tube videos on Midori , no sound from TV.
Sound settings (vol control / output devices) indicate sound going to Port: headphones,
How to get the sound to HDMI so that TV speakers get active?
Thanks in advance
software update done, ran
sudo apt-get install kodi
to install kodi,, probably this solved the problem,

Not sure if this applies in your OS, but in Windows you right click on the speaker icon at bottom right taskbar. and the context menu pops up with options to select the device default for playback. If this is available on your system then select HDMI as your default speakers. Or if you just want that for watching whatever then don't make it the default and just select for that one time. Of course you will have to do this manually each time. This is of course if you can find this feature on your OS.

  1. Have you tried starting/restarting pulseaudio yet from terminal?
    Launch Terminal
  2. Run pulseaudio -k (it restarts pulseaudio)
  3. Ubuntu will attempt to restart the daemon automatically assuming there are no problems with the configuration. You can run pulseaudio --check to check that pulseaudio is running. If it's not running you can start the daemon using the pulseaudio --start
