Pinebook pro bricked? - michaelmoua - 03-11-2025

Hello,
my pinebook pro stopped working. When I plug it in, the red light on the connector turns on, but pressing the power button does nothing. Here’s what I’ve tried:

  1. Holding the power button down for over 30 seconds
  2. Bypassing the battery by disconnecting it and bridging the two connectors
  3. Removing the eMMC and attempting to boot from an SD card

None of these solutions have worked, and the power light remains off (neither red nor green). Any assistance would be appreciated!

Were you using U-Boot or Tow-Boot on the SPI ROM?

If so, that is possibly corrupt.

If not, you are probably just having a hard time making a bootable micro-SD card. The most reliable images I've used for that are DietPi and NetBSD.

Keep in mind, that power light doesn't actually indicate that the Pinebook Pro is powered up. It is turned on in software. If the software fails, the computer locks up and the light never gets turned on.

It's also worth noting that if the PBP battery was allowed to fully drain, it can take hours to get it enough charge to boot back up. Previously, I've had to let mine charge overnight before I could get it to turn back on.
