New user/phone here - initial update issues - sexywheat - 06-28-2022

Hi!

New to the pinephone and this forum. I just got my new pinephone in the mail today and am running into some issues after trying to install initial updates.

Here's what happened:

  1. Installed initial ~1Gb software updates through Discover, it rebooted and installed them fine
  2. Discover said I had 600+ additional updates to install, but the size was 0 bytes
  3. Tried to install those multiple times. It rebooted, said it was installing updates but every time I re-opened Discover it said those 600+ 0 byte updates still needed to be installed
  4. Decided to update through cli instead and ran sudo pacman -Syu
  5. Updates installed, rebooted, but every time it restarts Discovery says that there was a "failed offline update" for the hwdata package. Offers the open discover or repair system buttons. The repair system button does nothing, and when I try to update through both discover and cli it says I'm "all up to date"
  6. However, the on-screen keyboard is now broken (it hangs for a few seconds when I type something, then closes, and then reopens but doesn't type anything)
Any advice on what I should do now?

Should I just re-flash this and start again, or is there some cli repair system package command I can run?

For the record, at some point I recall running

sudo rm /var/lib/pacman/db.lck

Due to an issue related to this

I've used KDE a lot but only on Debian-based systems so I'm a little fresh at this, thanks!

As PinePhone is in continuous development, it is always a good idea to make a fresh start by flashing the latest "factory" or beta image.
