I am not quite sure, but I used mostly sxmo, and I feel this draws rather more power than, say, Manjaro Plasma. But, then, the processor dissipates quite some heat in all OSes. Less would be much better.

Does the Beta edition ship with those changes, or will they become available after installing the first updates upon receiving the device (sudo pamac -Syu)?

The themal management daemon I'm working on will, hopefully, become a Manjaro ARM package one day.  However, Manjaro ARM does already include a device tree patch that lowers the "passive" trip point a bit, from 75 oC to 60 oC, but IHMO not nearly enough to have a measurable effect.

My braveheart edition, when first released, would get far far far hotter and the screen on it still looks great. In my case, it started de-laminating in the top left corner and slowly spread around the edges of the screen. Now that it has done a full circle around, it seems to be spreading into the center. This all happened of the course of a month or so.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sad  How much have you used your Braveheart Edition PinePhone, compared with the use of your Manjaro Edition PinePhone?  It could be that the prolonged exposure to moderate temperatures causes the screen delamination, much more than it is caused by shorter exposure to much higher temperatures.  This is just an assumption, though.

In theory, repairing the screen delamination should be the same as fixing a shattered screen whose LCD panel remained intact, which is a rather common repair for iPhones, for example.  However, you'd need to source the topmost screen layer, and possibly the digitizer, which aren't sold separately by Pine64 , and you'd need to find a cellphone repair shop that has access to a machine that can handle the size of the screen in the PinePhone.  I'm not an expert when it comes to such repairs, but I've heard that the end results can be very good.

Actually, I asked evilbunny to mark this thread as sticky, Smile so it becomes visible to as many PinePhone owners as possible.  We can isolate the root cause only by having as many reports as possible.

Hello,

Now, the problem is all around my 'Manjaro  Convergence Edition' even if I set the thermal limits when the solution to set it was done is this thread :

Code:
$ > cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/trip_point[012]_temp
45000
60000
80000

The other parameters are let to the default value.

Well, I follow the problem since the start since I'm concerned as well and finally created an account to reply.

I didn't notice the problem to pine feedback but i haven't received a response yet.

My case :
Started on the 3/4top left side,
The left side of the screen did stop responding as well like someone else side
Now the whole contour is done, the right side of the screen is still working.
A second contour inside the first started appearing, I will see what happened, it doesn't seems to spread too much
I did not use the thermal setting even if i saw it

My observation :
Someone talked about the humidity possibly having an impact. I don't think it does I live in a dry place and it happened the same.

The spread was when the phone got hot, or hotter. Mine is most of the time at a relatively high temperature, serving as a hotspot, i use it daily as a hotspot with a noticeable hot feeling to touch. However, using it as a hotspot wasn't increasing the spread significantly. The few time were i noticed a significant increase in the spread, where when the phone was in my pocket while driving and got very hot. When it stayed as a hotspot on the sun. When he stayed as a hotspot under a pile of cloth.

The left side not working might be unrelated, i was the only with the symptome at first but since someone else had the same maybe. The side not working started at the very beginning and did not happened on the right with the spread. So I don't feel like it is the normal continuation of the symptom.

I have an idea of what could've caused the issue, at least in my case: sunlight. The delamination started happening in April when the sun started shining more, and with my bedroom's window facing east, I get direct sunlight to my bedside table in the morning. I've recently left my phone on the table where the sun was shining and after a short while noticed that I was getting a second layer of separation happening, which wasn't there or at least visible before.

Could UV light from the sun be causing this? Have any of you who have this issue left your phone in the sun?

I'm really not a glue expert, but shouldn't some UV-activated glue become UV-resistant once it's been activated?  Though, in theory it should also be heat-resistant, so, again in theory, there should be no issues.  However, the screen delamination issue is obviously present, which clearly means that not all is as expected with the glue.

Same here Sad

Mobian CE 3/32 Using since middle of February 2021 as a daily driver.

2 times dropped on back (nothing happened then) about month ago.
Never dropped into water.
Sometimes it was getting hot e.g. with many apps opened.
This occurred yesterday.
This is serious issue, it should be pinned on wiki and visible for new customers.
It'd be also good if there were posted any progress / temp. solution....
All in all it should be easy to find and fix (without reading 6 pages thread).
tbh it's quite big problem for me as my shitty currency makes everything 3.7 times more expensive.
To fix this I'll have to order part, hot air station, and learn how to do that.

I've ordered pp not knowing about that...

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be offensive I'm just worried. I love that project and this is my first disappointment.

RE: Screen dying already? - Uturn - 06-11-2021

the Pine Helpdesk is not answering my question about whether this might be a warranty case (since 10 days). OK, the screen is not very expensive, but I'd still appreciate an answer in reasonable time.

RE: Screen dying already? - dsimic - 06-11-2021

As a note, I don't think that Pine64 has come to a resolution on this issue being a manufacturing defect or not, being limited to a certain PinePhone batch or not, etc.  However, this is just my presumption, i.e. this is by no means an official statement from Pine64.

Of course, having as many owner reports as possible should help Pine64 in making that resolution.

You might be on to something: I've had my device since June-2020 and it has never seen the sun - when I used it, I was not remotely close to any window, which was closed anyways. The screen on it works as it always has with no apparent delamination or touch issues.
