I have hacked the debian installer for my preferred setup so that very little rework is needed and I only care about /home data, so rsync is my preferred backup method.

couple that with complicated partitions and uboot needed for the pbp and I would avoid backups with dd... but that's just me!

How does one look into the installer to make changes? Are you unpacking the default img from the Wiki doing your mods then bringing it back to img for flashing?
