So, after much fruitless efforts, I got tired and decided to get myself a baby NAS (Synology DS120j).
Samba and NFS still don't work but now I can at least access my remote data with the NAS' webpage.
There was an update to Samba in the last major update of the PBP.
SMB4K now seems to be working.
I'll try that ASAP.
