PINE64

Hi,

I just received my board and tested a few linux images (all the ones with a desktop) but faced the same issue with every single one. the OS would randomly freeze when I use it. I assumed it was caused by asking too much so I installed the fan service found on the forum and made sure to do basic tasks but it keep freezing. If I leave the board running without doing anything it seem to be fine though.

I have the full NAS set (from the pine shop):
- RockPro64 (4gb)
- NAS case
- PCI E 2x SATA 
- 30cm headsink
- Case fan
- 32Gb SC / 32 Gb EMMC
- Air Mouse
- ROCKPro64 12V 5A power supply

I think I listed it all.


I have plugged everything so the issue could be the HDD pulling too much power though as I don't do anyrthing with them other than having them plugged I guess this is not the issue.

Have anyone faced a similar issue? Any expert that would know where to check what is going on? I have some programming experience but i'm new to linux!

My current project is to make a media player / NAS connected to a projector.

From testing and using the board a little more, it appear that the board can run fine for hours as long as I'm not browsing.

If I have FF running (With DietPi) or Chromium running (with armbian, or other desktop images) the screen will freeze at some point (even if I'm active on a terminal typing commands and only have 1 tab open). The tab(s) are generally only loading the forum here so nothing very demanding like youtube would be.

I'm wondering if anyone here is using the RockPro64 as a desktop yet and can run a browser with no issues?! If so how did you manage!

Edit: The freeze is global as even remote SSH or Samba access goes boom!

You should contact sales@ as the problem you are having shouldn't be happening...

I have similiar problems. Desktop freezes as soon as a SATA HDD is mounted but I thought it was because of some issue with Pulseaudio.

It is ... still working on it.

Thank you for pointing that Sasan I was not expecting this to be the issue. I'll test that tomorrow to see if I have issues when I remove the PCIe SATA card.

Is there alternatives to Pulseaudio? I assume this take case of the audio on the board, would there be any alternative for sound on HDMI?

Thank you for pointing out this! I tested my card without the PCIe card and could indeed run video / youtube / multiple programs with no issues.

I found this post that explain how to remove pulseaudio and still have sound through HDMI so I'm now testing is the SATA PCIe connected again work but it does look promising (running youtube while typing this).
