I can't set the default apps in settings; they're all grayed out. Also, text files are not even recognized when I click on one in Portfolio.

Anyone know the secret to getting this stuff working as it should?

[edit] I should clarify that this is on Phosh.
Judging by the lack of response, I guess I should just use a different distribution.

I'll give it another go.
Reinstalled pmOS and I still get the same problem.
This is still an issue. Sad

Same here. You're not alone.

Workaround is to install Nautilus and plug in mouse.
Open Nautilus and choose some file with file type for your needs (for example .pdf) and then press right button of the mouse.
It will open dialog where you can choose the default application to open pdf files Smile.

You can also edit mimeapps.list from your /home/user/.config folder but the upper one is easier solution.
