After the battery of my Pinebook (non-Pro) 14" had a swollen battery I removed it from the case.
But now it seems that it cant boot completly, becuase when armbian IoT (trixie) does start I firstly get some good startup messages and then it does reset and restart in u-boot ans then try to boot armbian trixie again

My Battery is a WTL-400110175 with 7 cables (3x red (PB+) , 3x black (PB- / GND) and in the middle a white or yellow cable (PCM / Overvoltage?)

Did anyone get the normal Pinebook to boot completly without a battery?
Or has anyone build a "new" battery from the old connector and a new 10.00mAh cell?
Something like this: https://www.n11.com/urun/1260110-37v-100...a-87767963
because I couldnt fine only a new battery far away from me for the Pinbook Pro (also 7 Pin)

Thanks for Info in advance

Hey!

The hinge on my Pinebook Pro has broken and I don't feel like fixing it. And since I'd hate to throw this thing away for just that reason, I'm willing to give it away for free.

I'm shipping from Germany near Hamburg, just send me a message here or on IRC (same username as here) if you're interested. You would however have to pay for shipment, after successfully receiving the Pinebook Pro.

Fixing that hinge apparenly involves gluing it, for more info post a message in the #pinebook channel on the Pine64 IRC, it appears to be pretty repairable using the correct type of glue.

Tell me what you're going to use the PBP for!
This is how I'm going to rank this:
1. Developers - reputable developers in the Pinebook Pro community who need some extra hardware to play with and don't necessarily need a working hinge.
2. Newbies - people interested in buying a Pinebook Pro and in fixing that hinge.
3. Enthusiasts - existing Pinebook Pro users interested in spare parts and willing to distribute remaining spare parts further.

If you're a developer, send me a link of some sort to a list of previous contributions.

Edit: Got one from Ebay now

Hello,

I'd love to tinker with a Pinebook (yes, non-pro version), but unfortunately they are out of stock and probably will be for an extended period (?). Shop also says "Reserved for “Reduce Digital Gap campaign" - I guess this means that even *if* they were in stock, you will never be able to buy them again?

Because of this, if anyone reading this has a spare, mostly working Pinebook lying around, please get in touch :-) I am located in Germany, but shipping should be doable from anywhere in the world.

Thanks!

has anyone successfully moved an eMMC 128 GB from a stock Pinebook Pro into a Pinebook 1080p to replace the stock 16 GB drive ? According to specs, the Pinebook 1080p supports only up to 64 GB. New OS installation expected, that for sure, fine.

Hi all,

I am trying to resurrect my 11.6" Pinebook, so expect some more posts shortly.

For debugging, I would like to know the position of the tiny switch inside the case that switches between UART and headphone audio.

I have searched, but I can't find a definitive answer, and I can't remember if I already moved the switch...

So, there are two positions. Inboard (towards the centre of the laptop) and outboard (towards the, er, edge of the laptop). Which position is UART please?

Yes, I could figure it out if I could boot up...

Thanks!

Ok. I can boot. Opening the case, staring at the innards really hard, and putting the cover back on helped.

The initial problem was that the KDE neon logo would appear (concentric circles) then the screen went black. I couldn't even get a console, and booting from SD card failed also.

After peering inside (and doing literally nothing) I tried booting again. This time I was able to switch to a console, whereupon I learned that the eMMC was full and the OS was thrashing.

Next, I reflashed my SD card (with the 1080p version of Neon) using dd on a Raspberry Pi because Etcher on my PC was a bit sus. Rebooted with that and... success!

I've set up Neon, but I think I just did it on the SD card. I haven't figured out how to rewrite the eMMC.

But, I digress, this thread was supposed to be for the UART switch.

Thanks.

However, I only see a link to transferring a stock install to emmc? What am I missing? I'd like to install *my* customized OS to emmc. (Sadly, I did not manage to maintain my changelog text file as intelligently suggested here. I think you have to be a professional developer to have that much discipline.)

If -- big if -- I could boot from something other than emmc or sdcard (eg USB? but that's not in the boot order, is it?), then presumably I could rsync the / dir to emmc (dev/mmcblk1 I think? I'd check before doing it!)

So, question #1: how to boot so I can do an rsync?

Question #2: best options when running rsync for everything to transfer well?

Or, Question #3, if there's a different and better way, what is it?

Thanks for your help! At wit's end here (please don't tell me I didn't have to go far )

My Pinebook and my Pinebook Pro are still daily drivers and they still do their respective jobs.

Hello. Some time ago I bought 2 pinebooks.

Pinebook #1 was sometimes used, different distros were tried and regularly updated. Now Manjaro Arm Sway Profile occupies his EMMC drive.

Pinebook #2 was (with few exceptions) shelved. If used, then only for browsing and not updated. His EMMC drive has still the original stock KDE neon image.

I decided to update pinebook #2 to Manjaro OS. On pinebook #1 I prepared SD card with my current favorite pinebook distro and tested ii right there on #1 if it is working. Yes, #1 booted from SD. Then I inserted the SD card to #2. It couldn't boot. Black screen. So I tried different distros, even the original one. No boot. I've also tried to flash the SD card on #2 with no effect, still no boot. Then I tried to mount the SD card, to see if files are alright and found out, that the card couldn't be mounted (card is recognized, partitions are visible in file manager, but can't be mounted cause of unrecognized file system).I even can't fomat the SD card on #2 with gparted (write error).

My experiment showed me, that if I write an image on #1 (using dd), then the SD card can be booted & read on #1, but not on #2. If I do the same procedure on #2, the SD card is not bootable nor usable on both pinebooks.

Does anybody have an idea what went wrong? Is there any other way to flash an image to EMMC without booting from SD? How can I 100% figure out if it is a HW, SW, SDcard or user related problem?

Thank you for your answers & suggestions.

Fun story: Meanwhile I've tried to run packages upgrade on #2. Something went wrong and now some packages are missing, DE is half broken (no panels or start menu) and I have to connect to wifi via CL

My Pinebook 14" Laptop device case burst apart from 5 screws which attached the bottom to the keyboard top portion. The faulty swollen battery broke apart both of the monitor's hinges along with its plastic screw-holes. So the monitor is also separated from the base.

The full device repair is not financially worth it.

My laptop was received in June 2017 and was recharged less than 100 times.

I believe the Pinebook 14" Laptop model is no longer available and is probably discontinued.

I charged the device to about 90% before I went to bed at night on Monday January 11th and the next day in the afternoon, I noticed the bulged laptop case separated and cracked from its seams. I did not smell any fumes nor did I feel any heat from the laptop as I put it away the night before.

I am not sure if this subject has come up in another thread as my searches under the search function indicates zero threads.
