Hello all, I just received my PineNote - which, blew my expectations away. I think this is the device I've been craving for a long time to be just about a daily driver, which was not the plan at all, but I love the simplicity and flexibility it offers. Perfect form factor for what I need, and it may end up saving my degrading eyesight (screen detox in my near future).

However, I have not seen any posts regarding successful or unsuccessful recording of audio - I just tried the sound recorder for one of my use cases, and it results in only a slight buzzing audio recording, though the functionality seems to work. I have not dug into the config, but everything else worked right out of the box (mostly, except for that lib64 updating issue), so I was a little surprised by this. I did verify that the internal mic was selected as the input (there were no other options), but did not look into drivers, logs, or anything like that, mostly due to lack of time to devote to it at the time. Should have more time next week to do so...

Hoping it's not a hardware issue (and if it is, hoping it's something I can potentially fix myself?), and/or that some of the more refined Linux/embedded/etc. users here can help point me in a starting direction (or if anyone can also do a test to help confirm it's just my device, and not a bug).

Thanks!
Symptoms are that the lsusb command gives no results, sudo /usr/bin/dmesg | tail shows nothing new after plugging in a hub, flash drive,or other USB device, and sudo /usr/bin/dmesg | tail on a linux computer shows nothing new after connecting the computer and PineNote by USB.
The frame rate is obviously still crap to use them for general purpose displays (still no Youtube videos), but I am sure that there are people who would be interesting having some colors:
- In my case I am thinking about reading scientific articles which often includes graphs and plots which use color.
- Another use case for me: taking notes/making correction in a different colour.
(the above don't even require a high fidelity in color reproduction).

SD cards are almost absent in eink devices nowadays, arguably for pushing people into buying cloud services and discouraging offline personal .epub and .pdf libraries. A linux device has no such conflict of interest, why then leaving sd cards out?

128GB is lots for a simple eink reader, but gets filled quickly for mainline linux installations (not to mentions personal .epub and .pdf libraries, which can easily be much bigger than that).

Is there any plan for supporting sd/microsd card expansion or other forms of in-device expansion? Is it possible to mod the device as is (spare connectors on the motherboard and similar) ?

I ordered the developer's edition on the PineNote a week or so ago. Still waiting on DHL to get it to me, tracking disappears when they hand it off to a third party -_-

I keep seeing references to a UART adapter on the hardware wiki and the schematic is even up there. Does it ship with the device? I couldn't find it on the store. I'm no stranger to building my own hardware, just didn't know if that was necessary here.

Thanks!

Maybe even with a color display, to be an par with other competitors?
As I am getting older, my eyes get worse, most of the stuff I read
are pdfs formated in A4 single column and I mostly use zotero for work,
which is essential for me to run on the device (which is the reason why I am bound
so for me its

linux (everything else is useless for me) > 13+" = usable size > color (would make the device future proof for me > refresh rate (as seen in other actual ereaders, who can display videos and play games on them, the least necessary item for work, but most eye pleasing for sure)

Does it mean that the screen is continuously refreshing like a LCD/OLED smartphone? Isn't e-ink supposed to stay put forever unless it's changed? I say that because backlight PWM is bad for the eyes.
Also, would like to know how good is this screen compared to Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. I want the thing closes possible to a real book.

Just an idea of hardware support that would make it unique compared to other existing e-ink devices:

- Ability to connect the tablet to an usb-c color lcd monitor and use it as a Linux computer
- Ability to plug a laptop or computer to the tablet itself and use the tablet as an external e-ink monitor
Really looking forward to this e-ink tablet!
