Android on PinePhone? - vanja - 05-28-2020 Hi, Why there is no Android subforum under Pine Phone software? Not enough interest? From my point of view it would be useful to have a running image for few reasons. - users that are android app dependent can run those apps, even in dual boot scenario its good to have android installed in case of ocassional need for it. - until anbox matures, people could actually use pinephone as daily driver on android, rather then having it as secondary device to play with (daily use the hardware you purchased, and reboot to linux for play I think I saw a mention of android image booting on pinephone somewhere, doesnt it deserve its own section under OS? if there is android for pine tablet, why not for pine phone? and just a small disclaimer. Android is free and open source software. I am not talking about android google bundle. My main driver is LineageOS device without any traces of google software or microg services, and its running perfectly fine. 90% of applications do not need google to run. thoughts? thanks RE: Android on PinePhone? - tophneal - 05-28-2020 Likely b/c the focus on the PinePhone has been pretty consistently Linux. I imagine if there was interest/people working to bring Android to the phone actively, we'd see an Android subforum added. RE: Android on PinePhone? - KNERD - 05-28-2020 I think the point was to get away from the Google spectrum, however there was some forked Android projects listed in the Wiki if you are interested, RE: Android on PinePhone? - vanja - 05-29-2020 (05-28-2020, 08:38 AM)KNERD Wrote: I think the point was to get away from the Google spectrum, however there was some forked Android projects listed in the Wiki if you are interested, Hi, can you send me a link to those forks? I cannot find mention of android anywhere in wiki. thanks. So, there is mention in this forum that some people received their pinephone preloaded by android7 in chinese by mistake, rather than postmarketOS factory test, and there is some screenshots of android10 booted on pinephone on reddit, but interestingly enough there is no android images 7 or 10 or whatsoever for pinephone available to download anywhere I looked. Almost if like its on purpose, so the focus stays on linux The way I see it, android is java apps running in java VM (dalvik) on top of linux kernel, so why not run those same java apps in anbox container in linux which behaves similar like docker containers. why rewrite all apps to linux, no need to do that. Until anbox matures, why not have dual boot temporary RE: Android on PinePhone? - jack1 - 05-29-2020 I guess u can use virtualbox... RE: Android on PinePhone? - nas - 05-29-2020 Seen at least a couple people working on it - GloDroid appears to be one of them https://mobile.twitter.com/osakanataro2/status/1259039700938973184 RE: Android on PinePhone? - Xray2000 - 05-29-2020 (05-29-2020, 06:47 AM)nas Wrote: Seen at least a couple people working on it - GloDroid appears to be one of them Hi, Wow nice i will try to build this RE: Android on PinePhone? - nas - 05-30-2020 (05-29-2020, 08:09 AM)Xray2000 Wrote: Wow nice i will try to build this I had no luck with the build so 50gb later, I just installed the ready-made image. As it says, it's a pre-release so things like telephony are missing but hey, it's android 10 on the pinephone, that's impressive glodroid-pinephone.jpg (Size: 79.72 KB / Downloads: 1,046) RE: Android on PinePhone? - vanja - 05-30-2020 (05-29-2020, 05:12 AM)jack1 Wrote: I guess u can use virtualbox...
