I really have no problem with the screws, I don't plan to open it that often.  But if they're soft the slots can strip out with frequent use and dropping them is a problem.  They are a little strange in having a tiny slot and a fairly big head.  They could be a more normal round or filliister head, they don't need to be flat head.  Socket or Torx head is an option.  Once you know the thread size you can replace them with whateever you want.
