Random Reboots - thriller - 03-06-2020

I was hoping to get a feel of the frequency people experience with random reboots on their PBP.

This past week I experienced three random reboots when using my Pinebook Pro.  All three times the laptop was running on battery at the time.  The first time I had just turned it on and started browsing the web for less than five minutes (Performance Mode was enabled for the CPU and battery was 100%).  The second time I was downloading about 10-15 PDF files while listening to music and browsing Reddit (On-Demand Mode was enabled for the CPU and battery was 100%).  The third time happened about 20 minutes after waking it up from suspend and browsing a website while doing a little bit of scripting (On-Demand Mode was enabled for the CPU and battery was 85%).

All three of these scenarios seem to consume different amounts of power but yet all led to the same issue.  Has anyone else experienced these issues in a similar or even different fashion?  Any guesses as to why this might be occurring?

Spec info: Default Debian OS with latest firmware update and standard 64GB eMMC.  I did flash my eMMC a month ago due to screwing around with installations.

I experienced two reboots this week and others in past weeks.

The most recent, about 15 minutes ago, happened while I was logging into a website. I had four other tabs open, as well as a terminal window and keepass2. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. My mouse and keyboard stopped working, the screen went black and rebooted.

I am running the stock OS and just updated with Mr. Fixit's script yesterday.

I'm guessing this is a kernel panic, but I have very little experience diagnosing this type of issue. Perhaps someone will chime in with some pointers.

I got a bunch of this in dmesg right before the latest reboot:

Mar  7 16:31:20 PinebookPro kernel: [146439.023439] cp15barrier_handler: 30 callbacks suppressed
Mar  7 16:31:20 PinebookPro kernel: [146439.023948] "Main" (6468) uses deprecated CP15 Barrier instruction at 0xf4fd8a48

Mar  7 16:31:20 PinebookPro kernel: [146439.141777] "Main" (6468) uses deprecated CP15 Barrier instruction at 0xf4fd8a84

The next event shows the PBP booting:

I've been experiencing a lot of random reboots as of the past week. This morning it's occurring when I turn on the machine and a minute after logging in it goes to the full screen terminal with a flashing "_", and then shuts down. As well I've had issues where the screen turns grey and white (which appears like a video driver display issue, but since they're occurring together, perhaps the issues are linked?) Both of these started happening after I installed code-oss & extensions for it, but again I'm not sure of the causation.

here's a picture of the grey screen. Usually there's more white & distortion but I haven't got a picture of that

& it happened again and i've realized it makes a high pitch noise when this happens. it seems to not be charging now as well? i love this laptop i don't want it to die![Image: uoRhW5B.jpg]

I've experienced two random reboots myself in the past month or so (while on battery), but haven't been able to get any useful information out of the system logs. When I checked, the last entries seem to be unremarkable, followed by a line of garbage and then kernel boot messages. Am using mrfixit debian and am up to date. (Wonder if there might've been something in the last update?)

RE: Random Reboots - Eight Bit - 03-11-2020

I've had a couple (around 3) the last month or so... Never when I was doing anything special. Last time it happened the mouse pad stopped responding a couple of minuttes before. I had to work on so I plugged in a mouse which worked fine until the reboot happened.
After that the mouse pad was fine again too

I experience random reboots as well. Not often and always random. Sometimes on battery, sometimes not. I'm running the default OS.

I have encountered that also.
