Trackpad sluggish response - ravanh - 02-09-2020

Hi all, not able to find similar reports on this forum I'm wondering if I'm the only one having this issue with the trackpad mouse pointer movement:

When I stop displacing my fingertop over the trackpad, the mouse pointer will not stop immediately. During one or two seconds (at most) it will continue to slow down to a halt, usually about 5 to 10 screen pixels further.

The same delay can be noticed when starting a slow (or short) movement. My finger is moving but the pointer remains at it's place, seemingly waiting for some minimal fingertop displacement before actually starting to move.

This all makes the finer mouse actions VERY hard. Trying to grab a window border (for resizing) for example is nearly impossible!

I did a firmware upgrade from https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/pinebook-pro-keyboard-updater

I've tried all different touchpad settings (acceleration, sensitivity, threshold) and tinkered with synclient parameters as described on https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebook_Pro#X-Windows_.26_trackpad_tuning

Also tried different OS images including Chromium from SD, all suffer the same touchpad issue.

Is there anything solution?

Same issue here, very annoying! I have yet to perform the firmware update, I was hoping it'll fix this issue...

RE: Trackpad sluggish response - aaspectre - 02-15-2020

I had the same issue, even after a firmware update. I have in my possession 2 PBPs, and one of them has this issue, the other doesn't. I hate to say it, but I think it may just be a QC thing. On the bad one, I just use an external mouse.

RE: Trackpad sluggish response - Tiedemate - 02-15-2020

I can confirm the firmware update did not fix it.
Ok, well, I guess I'll have to talk to support then. It is really annoying like this...

Try my fix at https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8884&pid=60238#pid60238 before you ditch it. Ignore the Synaptics and mtrack drivers, just use libinput. Turns the fancy stuff off for now.

I followed the steps you mentioned, and it has massively improved the trackpad! The delay is still visible, but now it is usable after all.
Thanks a lot!

In case anyone is wondering what we're talking about, here's a clip showing the behaviour. The delay is best seen after the very last movement of the finger, the cursor continues.

My PBP also has the touchpad where the cursor won't stop with the finger.
I just applied the suggested changes in xorg and it is has made a slight improvement.

Thanks for sharing @ab1jx ... sadly, I installed Chromium which does not use xorg (as far as I know) but suffers the same touchpad lag.

@Tiedemate and? Any news from support?

@aaspectre That's worrying. It would mean we have received a bad apple? Or at least a bruised one Sad

Wonder if replacing the track pad hardware would solve the issue...

RE: Trackpad sluggish response - easyb - 03-20-2020

I am experiencing the same. Is this really a hardware issue? Hard to believe...
