I don't recall middle click behavior while I was using KDE, but I found this that may help you enable it, if it's not.

I can confirm middle click working under Manjaro (in Gnome), but it is not all that reliable. It also seems to work better in the lower half of the touchpad from my experience.

It could also be something a user pointed out to me when I first loaded CrOS, the multi finger taps work best when your finger tips are separated. I usually need to keep an inch to 2 distance between mine.
