How do I easily charge the watch? - Paranoid - 01-11-2020

Hi everybody,

my devkit recently arrived and I'd like to charge it.

This may come as a weird question to some, but how do I charge the watch? I need to hold the case closed with relatively much force for the contacts to remain securely closed. I've tried to put something more or less heavy on it while charging, but that didn't do the trick. Permanently closing the backplate with glue probably isn't a good idea either as I will need to flash it every now and then.

How are you guys doing that?

I leave the case open with the green cable (lower right) connected to the 5V charging pad. More details https://medium.com/@ly.lee/build-and-flash-rust-mynewt-firmware-for-pinetime-smart-watch-5e14259c55?source=friends_link&sk=150b2a73b84144e5ef25b985e65aebe9

I had the same problem.   I taped the back on but it wouldn't charge because the back wasn't closed tightly.  I had connected it through a DROK USB Meter so I could see if it was drawing current.  I put heavier and heavier books on the watch until it started to charge.  The book that did it was a Linux command reference of over 600 pages.  When the USB meter showed the current had dropped close to zero I knew it was charged.  It took slightly over two hours the first charge.

For charging I used a spring clamp. Seems to work well.

So in the end, your PineTime does run under Linux !   (SCNR)

I originally just balanced a paper weight on it but I'm trying to develop on it now and its useful to charge it and interact with the screen so I cut a couple of tiny clamps on a laser cutter.

I just use a rubber band.

Over-engineering? Probably a little bit guilty here... Big Grin
