Best distro with xfce - jorgeortiz - 01-07-2020 Hi, everybody, I don't have much experience with Pinebook. I want to use the xfce desktop in my Pinebook Pro. I tried to install xfce on the default operating system, but the indicators on the panel gave me problems, as they did not appear. With which operating system can I have a stable xfce desktop? How can I install it? Thanks, RE: Best distro with xfce - Krakatau - 01-08-2020 Which indicators are we talking about? As far as I know you don't need to install another OS. Have you tried to google how to resolve missing indicators in xfce? For example: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/11/display-network-icon-ubuntu-xfce-panel/ Link above leads me to believe that there is a plugin that needs to be installed in order for indicators to appear. RE: Best distro with xfce - danielt - 01-09-2020 Personally I don't like to cheerlead too much for any specific distro if only because different users have different tastes and needs. However as meta-advice I have found that 32 or 64GB SD cards are getting pretty cheap and that the A-class ones (A1 or A2) perform much better than my older generation class 10 or U1 cards. Thus my advice would be to buy a large modern SD card (I am using these) and experiment with a various images and installers to see which one suits you best. If you find one you really like then you can install it to the eMMC in order to free up the SD card slot. There is a summary of what is available here: https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebook_Pro_Software_Release RE: Best distro with xfce - wdt - 01-09-2020 I have done maybe 20-30 tests with iozone, using the switches recommended by tkaiser Samsung evo (any version) seem always to be in top 3, don't get 16G, that is slower They are NOT marked A1 or A2 |
