raspberry pi 4 experiences? - speculatrix - 07-08-2019

I bought a 4GB Pi4 with the official plastic case and PSU. The case is useless because even when idling the SoC gets way too hot. It seems basically that you need forced cooling or a large heatsink in order to control the temperature :-(

I'm now wishing I spent my money on another Pine64 board instead.

Had the Pi 4 4GB one week after release and my God, it's awesome.
Temps could be better but hey, so could life.

I'll be getting a "fan shim" that'll keep my 4 nice and cool...

My first impressions are it's a lot better hardware wise than any pine64 board and the software is just magical!

Couldn't be more happier if I tried. Wink

That would be interesting if you had data to support comparisons with specific Pine64 boards. Otherwise your post is irrelevant and a waste of electrons.

Sorry; don't you know how to Google?
I have said this before and I'll say it again; no one can beat the software from RaspberryPi; fact.

Lets not feed the Troll Wink

CNX's Phoronix benchmarks - VS-3399 next to RPI4.

Please tell me how I am a troll... Wink
Just because RaspberryPi kicks Pine64's ass when it comes to software, I'm a troll... OK then.
You may have better hardware but your support (which is really funny and I know this because of how you treat newcomers, like your above post Luke) and software may as well be in the stone age...
But yes, I'm not a troll.... HAHA. so many arse lickers on this forum....

dude, you look miserable. but if this is what you need for feeling happy - getting attention through shitting around - ok then. be happy.

Give me an example of how I treat people, in this community or elsewhere, poorly? Smile

While I'm at it, let me point out that you started by writing that the RPI4 is:

Quote:(...) better hardware wise than any pine64 board and the software is just magical!

and now you write:

Quote:You may have better hardware (...)

So which is it? Seems to me like this is a case of little to no research and being annoyed by X or Y not working on some PINE64 hardware...

Regarding software, have you tried the most recent Debian (btw getting some awesome updates in just a few days) and Ubuntu builds for the RockPro64? (I am comparing apples to apples here, not sure which board you had in mind...). No magic in either of these builds tho, but rather plenty of work.

For the record - got at RPI4 in the mail, looks like great board with some software issues (e.g. video playback) and hardware woopsies. I'm sure both will be addressed in time.

[edit] Also @speculatrix sorry that this thread has sank to this level ... if it gets out-of-hand I'll just lock it.

You really need telling? Calling me a troll for voicing my opinion. I'm far from a troll, unlike some "moderator's" on here.
I'm pissed off with the lack of support your Rock64 has and the sh*t software that comes with it. ayufan's image is not stable, I asked why this was on your IRC and got told it IS stable but will have things not working which IMO is NOT stable. maybe we're in different worlds; or something.
I don't have and will not buy a RockPro64 because I've had nothing but bad luck with my Rock64 and was told I'm a troll (by you, which I disagree) and that I'm an as*hole. maybe so, maybe not. guess we'll never know.

Also, yes; the rock64pro down on paper has better "hardware" but the Pi4 is cheaper, maintained by better people and has awesome software which the Rock64/RockPro64 does NOT have. again, the Pi is the best SBC out there.... now try and call me a troll; I have an opinion like the rest, it's not my fault you can't handle it. lol

Why release a "SBC" and expect volunteers to do all the work and release an OS, that's just way too stupid. I get it; you're lazy and just want to make a buck....

Umm isn't that precisely what Raspberry Pi Foundation did?

All their users and supporters over the years since the beginning of Pi have become the support "community" that now forms the bedrock of "Pi's Advantage".
Considering how large the Pi Community is now it is very difficult to try to "compete" with that - at least in the same way.

Pine may be "new kids on the block" but that's no reason to knock them - they do have a good following.

My 2p worth anyway.
