Pinebook micro USB power input mod - phuzy - 05-18-2019 Decided to add a micro usb port for charging. EDIT: Not sure how to have the attachments display inline, not as links. EDIT 2: Used attachment as inline images. RE: Pinebook micro USB power input mod - jezek - 05-19-2019 Wow. Kudos on your skills. Is there an instruction manual, how to do this? That would be awesome. I would like to ask also another question. Not about your project, but a related question. On page http://linux-sunxi.org/Pine_Pinebook#Pinebook_11.6.22_1080p there is an statement in Power Managment paragraph: "There is a secondary power path via the OTG-USB port...". Does that mean, the pinebook can be charged via the OTG-USB port? If yes, which one is it? Thanks. RE: Pinebook micro USB power input mod - phuzy - 05-20-2019 Thanks! No instruction manual. Can provide if other members are interested as well. I've made similar modifications to other devices before. Just went by my own experience. Scoped out a good spot inside the pinebook with an unused threaded insert. Cut out the necessary hole and edges from the plastic shell/panel to expose/accommodate the micro USB. Probed the board for the 5V and GND connections to the barrel jack. Soldered wires connecting the barrel jack connections to the micro USB breakout. I didn't use a diode but it would help to prevent reverse voltage when both the barrel jack and micro USB are powered by different sources. As for the OTG-USB. I found four closely situated pads near the WiFi chip on the motherboard but I'm not sure if those are the OTG-USB ones. I did not use the OTG-USB connections for this mod. If they are readily accessible, it may be the better option as opposed to connecting to the barrel jack. RE: Pinebook micro USB power input mod - Luke - 05-20-2019 As far as first posts go, this certainly takes the prize. Also, pretty sweet mod - this is exactly the sort of tinkering that was envisioned for the Pinebook in the first place. [edit] for the pictures, in the future, I recommend just using imgur embed. RE: Pinebook micro USB power input mod - phuzy - 05-20-2019 Luckily the current generation Pinebook has a plastic enclosure. Sounds like the magnesium chassis of the Pinebook Pro might not lend to these kinds of mods as readily but still looking forward to it! |
