What are you asking about exactly? there are plenty of minimal images available - from ayufan (debian/ ubuntu), armbian, dietpi ... etc.,

The difference between most images is what packages are pre-installed, you could take a ubuntu image and run deborphan/debfoster and uninstall the unnecessary bits.
