Issues with Ubuntu MATE - joneszn - 04-21-2016 So I got my pine64 (1GB) up and running following the instructions in damikeh's thread ( http://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=622 ) but ran into some issues. Full run-down: Followed instructions exactly, MATE up and running pretty easily. However, 1. LightDM (/usr/sbin/lightdm-gtk-greeter) was popping up an error at login, and every login I have to login in twice. This error pops up every 5-10 minutes 2. I noticed the Software Boutique is empty but haven't done much with that. My biggest issues were trying to run Firefox. (Midori works well enough) 1. Firefox won't even pop up, crashing with segmentation faults. 2. This led me to realize that the way this build is installed, it didn't go through the usual setups, so no locales were set. Fixed the issue: Code: locale-gen en_US.UTF-8 Code: sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales Any suggestions on this? Starting to wonder if it's just an issue of 16.04 MATE being so fresh and wondering if I should try another desktop image. Thanks in advance. Yeah, Midori works well enough, but I'd still prefer to figure out the firefox issues in this build. And, as far as I know, Chromium isn't an option yet(?). Haven't had time yet to look into the issues with the LightDM errors yet. Also, the clock applet crashes from time to time. I unfortunatly don't know enough about the programming and porting aspects of systems, I am more of a hardware and end user kind of guy. The electrical engineering side I know way better than the programming side. I am trying to get the board into the hands of a good friend of mine, he has much more knowledge about the lower level stuff, and he is going to teach me as much as he can remotely I hope at least. If there is anything I can do to help let me know. I am good at following directions and know my way around ubuntu well enough to get diagnostics done. Also I read over on the deb forum that chromium has not yet been ported to arm64 only armhf. Which was sad to hear. I really am motivated to learn more about this stuff I have been doing computers for over half my life but mainly in hardware, end user software support, and network engineering. I never got far into programming, never had the time busy with other aspects of the hobby/industry but now that I have time I am set in my ways and learning is a bit slower. RE: Issues with Ubuntu MATE - K7AAY - 04-21-2016 Anyone try Mozilla Seamonkey yet? RE: Issues with Ubuntu MATE - joneszn - 04-23-2016 (04-21-2016, 09:57 PM)K7AAY Wrote: Anyone try Mozilla Seamonkey yet? TBH I've never even heard of it. Will look into it this weekend though. Update on the lightDM errors: rebooted today after a couple days of inactivity. Very fast boot up, only had to login once. I did get another system error, but this time it was for Ububtu-Mate-greeter. As for Wifi-BT module: Connected the module before bootup. Wifi ran perfectly. Bluetooth says it's on in the applet, but all options to connect or scan are unavailable. Every time I went to the Bluetooth Adapter settings in the control panel, it would freeze and I'd have to kill it before I even saw a window. Will look into a fix after work |
