Screen halo? - caps - 11-17-2018

Hey.

I've got a new 1080p pinebook but mine is suffering from what I can only describe as a "screen halo". Is this normal, or does my pinebook have a defect?

It's on all four sides but the left and right sides are the most visible.

Thanks for reading!

This is not normal. When using for a week and the halo effect still there, please file a RMA ticket at http://support.pine64.org

I tried but the support person said they couldn't see an issue. My display is also now flickering (as seen here) https://youtu.be/oAeQd_4agfk https://support.pine64.org/portal/ticket/2897

Here are a variety of images (and a gif of the flickering that just started less than 12 hours ago) compiled into a single post.

Same here though it's not as pronounced as the image above.

I have a slightly lighter part of screen near the bottom border (a little to the left from center, roughly above start of "Pinebook" text on the screen). It's like display's backlight is a bit brighter in this area. If I slightly press my finger against screen's border to the left of "P" letter, backlight comes to normal. When I remove pressure, screen backlight there again would become slightly brighter.

It's nowhere as massive and pronounced, though, as in this post (and I'm perfectly fine with that). In my case it's just one spot, rather than entire screen border. I assume halo problem got something to do with misalignment of IPS panel and display case (or, perhaps, excessive pressure/bending of IPS panel by the case), i.e. defect during assembly, rather than IPS panel itself.

I know this is an old thread, just hoping this helps anyone who runs into the same issue...

I just had the same issue with my Pinebook Pro (early 2020). I closed the lid to suspend to suspend the machine, and when I reopened it a few hours later, the screen was garbled and there was a pronounced "halo" effect around the edges, just like the OP. After rebooting, the screen was no longer garbled, but the halo effect persisted and on dark screens there appeared to be burn-in from one of the windows I had open. I suspect it never suspended... Fortunately, I gave one of those LCD burn-in fix videos a try. After about an hour and a half, everything was completely back to normal. Woohoo!

Here's the one I used, but I suspect any in full screen with the right aspect ratio would work too.
