Newbie, Can't get Audio using Ubuntu 18.04 v0.7.9 LXDE - Pajaro - 09-04-2018

Aloha,

I have a Rock64 4GM RAM
Purchased two month ago
HDMI connection to LED TV

Just installed Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic LXDE (0.7.9) everything works fine EXCEPT ( Huh ) I get no Audio.  It comes with alsamixer.  I tested audio and video with YouTube.   I am a newbie with Linux and this version of Ubuntu on a ROCK64.  I like this version of Linux and it streams very fast but no audio.  Is there a driver I have to install, if so, what driver?  Do I have to use the A/V port versus HDMI for audio? With this install I get no Audio, is that normal???

I have install Armbian Debian Stretch Desktop [microSD Boot] [5.42] It works fine (streaming), video and audio, for same ROCK64 SBC?

Appreciate any advice...

Pajaro,
Hawaii

Concretely, which OS-Image and HDM-Monitor did you use?
Although it is not all, there are reports that 4K / 8K Monitor does not work well.

Thanks for replying t4-4t,

The OS is "Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic LXDE Desktop Image [microSD / eMMC Boot] [0.7.9]"  from the "WIKI ROCK64 Software Release".  I am using LED TV Visio 7 years old and HDMI Cable I use for my Chromebook HDMI Connection.  I use the same setup for other Linux's and work fine (audio that is).  Just this release has no audio.  Cannot find if others in the forum are having this problem.  LXDE has nice UI, but no good without audio, YouTube video great, no Audio.   Huh

When searching with google
"Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic LXDE Desktop Image [microSD / eMMC Boot] [0.7.9]"
The following url hits, but this is the image of rockpro64.

I guess that OS-Image used by you is probably below
https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/releases/
https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/releases/download/0.7.9/bionic-lxde-rock64-0.7.9-1067-arm64.img.xz

There are cases of bugs related to a specific version,
so you can not get a useful answer unless you write it accurately.
The same is true for HDMI-Monitor

In my case,
the sound is coming from the HDMI-Monitor using "bionic-lxde-rock64-0.7.9-1067-arm64.img.xz" (above url)
My HDMI-Monitor is a cheap standard Full-HD(1980 x 1080) which is not sold now.

Aloha T4-4T,

Thanks for the information.  It seems this release ""bionic-lxde-rock64-0.7.9-1067-arm64.img.xz"" HDMI sound  works for you4 HDMI-monitor.  My HDMI-monitor works with other Linux releases, just not this one.  I will try the "bionic-lxde-rock64-0.7.9-1067-arm64.img.xz" release to see if that works.  Keep you posted!

It's just puzzling or dis-hearting to install an OS and a basic feature (sound/audio) doesn't work.  I just wanted to hear from another ROCK64 customer who installed this Linux OS and say "I have no problem with audio" when I installed this "bionic-lxde-rock64-0.7.9-1067-arm64.img.xz" OS.

Again, Aloha and Mahalo,
Pajaro
