ATTN: Pine 64 Marketing Department - Fix your PoE Adapter Product Page - dotbowder - 02-07-2018

A PoE splitter for the Rock64? Awesome!
It doesn't specify if it's 10/100 or 10/100/100???
Well, it claims to be compatible with the Rock64, which is 10/100/1000, so, the PoE is probably 10/100/1000 right???
Nope................ It's 10/100.........

Why does the product page not warn customers that this is a 100Mbps max PoE splitter? This is a HUGE oversight. I now have 2x 10/100 PoE splitters which can't be used for my Rock64 without eliminating one of the specific reasons I puchased the Rock64, GIGABIT ETHERNET.

Here's a post of a forum moderator mis-identifying the PoE as Gigabit capable, and recommending it to a forum user who explicitely is looking for a Gigabit version. https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=5108

Here's the same moderator indicating in May of 2016, that the PoE adapter is, in fact, 10/100, and the "KS team" will be instructed to post more detail on the PoE. https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=931

It LOOKS like Pine64 wants customers to mis-identify the PoE and purchase a 10/100 unit without realizing it.... which would be really naughty of Pine64...

I ran into the same Problem.  i purchased my rock64, case CPU heatsink and a poe injector the website said was a gigabit POE adapter and found out that it cuts my speed down to 100Mbps.  I am contacting sales to see if it is possible to trade for a conventional US wall wart as I will need some 300-400Mbps bandwidth for the purposes of my device.

To add 2 cents to the conversation...

In my experience, PoE injectors of this type use pairs from the 4 pairs available, only allowing data transmission over 2 pairs, not 4. In 1000Base-T case (very common), it uses 4 pairs and isn't suitable for this type of adapter. However in the case of 1000Base-TX (which requires Cat 6 cabling, and not as widely implemented), it only uses 2 pairs so these should be OK. Check your switch spec if you aren't sure which you have.

Yeah, I’ve made the same mistake before with PoE splitters that weren’t fully labeled. It’s easy to assume you’re getting full Gigabit if the product page mentions compatibility with devices that support it, but sometimes the hardware doesn’t match. I ended up having to swap mine out for a regular power supply too because the 100Mbps limit just wouldn’t cut it with all the network-heavy stuff I was running. When I run into similar unclear specs while shopping for anything tech, I’ll check outside resources or look for dedicated internet marketing company sites https://www.marketing1on1.com/ that break down specs or highlight things buyers miss. Sometimes they even post updated product guides, so it's worth checking when you’re about to buy those niche accessories.
