RE: Archlinux for Pinebook - xalius - 07-09-2017 Hi Anarsoul, thanks for adding Arch back to the build system! RE: Archlinux for Pinebook - eclay - 07-10-2017 Thanks for this image. I'm feeling like a newb here. I installed this image to my sd card and booted my pine book. I then followed these steps to install lxdm, xorg, mate-desktop on it and now when I reboot I get 4 pine cones in the upper left corner of the screen. what did I do wrong here? instructions. https://www.ostechnix.com/install-mate-desktop-environment-arch-linux/ RE: Archlinux for Pinebook - eclay - 07-11-2017 (07-10-2017, 11:31 AM)eclay Wrote: Thanks for this image. I guess I should clarify my request. Is there anything special or specific to getting xwindows running on arch linux on the pinebook? Neither here not there, it would seem that you borked the boot-up somehow. Obviously, you will need to start over; but, you might want to consider why you're running arch in the first place? What do you want to accomplish with your pinebook; ubuntu mate will probably work fine for you. On the other hand; did you get a logon prompt with the four pinecones ?? If so, then logon and start the desktop by trying: startx cheers RE: Archlinux for Pinebook - jmbernabotto - 07-15-2017 Hello. Can I know if Archilinux is a good distribution for our Pinebook ? I have never tested this distribution, I wonder if it's a good solution. Because I'm so satisfy about Ubuntu Mate. I can work with it, I can see videos with VLC... Most folks are using the ubuntu mate image; I would recommend you stay with that; it is customized for the Pinebook, and has been tricked out for all hardware , including the mic(s) now. archlinux is a good headless solution, and a good experimental gnu+linux distro for playing with and learning linux; ubuntu mate is more of a complete package; and better user experience. RE: Archlinux for Pinebook - jmbernabotto - 07-16-2017 Thanks marcushh777. I can say that I know linux, just a little bit, but I'm able to make some basics works ! I've tested a lot of distro, I like it ! SO, I think that I'm going to test Archilinux !! RE: Archlinux for Pinebook - JannF - 07-17-2017 What would be cool, would be a minimal package to bootstrap the armv8 Arch Linux ARM tar, as I'm not a fan of images ^^ |
