Left vs Right USB socket on Pinebook 14" - AndyK - 06-24-2017

Just wanted to comment that I noticed that a USB HDD plugged into the LEFT USB port won't power up properly (looks like it can't get enough current), but plugged into the RIGHT USB socket it behaves normally.

Is this intentional?

It's not a problem as you can use the right hand socket but it is an inconvenience if you are not aware of it.

Not sure but I noticed that if I use the left USB to try to charge a device, at least in Android, it crashes repeatedly, presumably because the power out is screwing with the power supply/controller. haven't tried the right USB for that, only for a mouse.

Keep in mind that all the ports are limited to 500mA as per the USB spec. So running any harddrives or other things that need more than 500mA is more a game of luck and probably causes instability issues...

The left socket is a USB-OTG port, and not a 'normal' USB host port. That's why it behaves strangely.

The right port is a full USB root port.
