What is the little switch for? - AndyK - 06-20-2017

I opened up my Pinebook to fit the larger eMMc and was interested to see how it was all put together z

One thing I noticed was a very small slide switch on the bottom edge of the main pcb. It wasn't labelled.... curious as to what it does?

I could be mean and tell you to read page 9 of the mainboard schematic, but I won't!  Big Grin

I could be even meaner, and scare you by saying that's the self-destruct switch, but I won't do that either.  Big Grin

Ok, serious now. You won't want to touch that switch unless you are a developer. The headphones jack on the pinebook can be used either for audio, or software switched to be the UART (serial console / debug). That switch is an override that will force it be UART. If you flick it and have headphones on when your pinebook boots, your ears will regret it. And if you have it plugged into into your stereo/amplifier, your amplifier and speakers may also not like it.

In addition the pushbutton next to the wifi module puts the A64 into FEL (recovery/USB bootloader) mode, which is also handy for development purposes (check linux-sunxi wiki for more on FEL-mode)

Thanks for the answers, guys. I am hoping I won't need to use that facility but you never know...
You're right it is on the Schematic (I just looked) but it's also nice to engage on the forum too.
