Exagear Desktop on Pinebook - AndyK - 05-22-2017

Searching around to see if Dropbox have an ARM client that might run on the Pinebook, I stumbled across something called Exagear Desktop which claims to run i686 apps on ARM and I note there is a version for Pine64. They claim 5x quicker than QEMU. Just wondering if anyone has tried it (particularly on a Pinebook) and whether it is worth the $25 they're asking or is it snake oil?

Hi. I don't know exactly, how dropbox works, but I've tried Exagear with WPS Office. My opinion: yes, it works a liitle bit slower than the same soft on x86 computer. A LITTLE bit is a key, for me working slower like that is easy acceptable.
In case of dropbox application, which in most cases works in background, there will be no difference (I think so) beetwen Pinebook / other ARM, and x86.

I got ExaGear too, I couldn't get any of my older DirectX games to work with wine:. Star Wars Rouge Squadron 3d, Tomb Raider 1&2, Age of Empires.  I also tried steam for x86 Linux, but non of my games would load: KOTOR2, Quake, Star Wars Dark forces.  Steam wouldn't load when I was using the accelerated GPU which was weird, the wine games still don't load.

I did get MS Office 2007 (Access/Project didn't work at all), I only need Excel and Power Point, maybe word.  Vision also loads.

I have read that the Raspberry pi 3 would work better for ExaGear and wine gaming, but since the license won't let you move to a different hardware once installed, you should consider if you really need to use ExaGear and if it's worth it paying for it.
