Pine64 Steaming Device - chasbel2112 - 09-29-2016 https://www.linux.com/learn/turn-your-feature-tv-smart-tv-30 I'm interested in attempting to create what is described in the above tutorial and was wondering if anyone else had done this particular mod before. What's your experience? Would my newly constructed device be on par with my Roku 3? (HD, Surround sound, etc). Anything else I should know that the article doesn't make clear? Thank you in advance! RE: Pine64 Steaming Device - Luke - 09-29-2016 Nice, good write-up RE: Pine64 Steaming Device - chasbel2112 - 09-29-2016 (09-29-2016, 10:16 AM)Luke Wrote: Nice, good write-up Well I thought so too, but it doesn't really address performance post build. Does anyone know what I would be looking at there? I certainly don't see any issue with it being used as a streaming box type of setup. I had no issues with youtube playback on a 1080p display, and if it can do that, it will have no issues with playback from my DLNA server. I do have an issue with this line of that tutorial "A 5v power adapter with micro USB (a cellphone charger will work)" [my emphasis] ... no... no... no! A 5v power adapter with micro USB and a minimum of 2A rating will 'work'... since cellphone charges can range from 500ma to 2-3A and also be 'smart chargers'... that is just begging for trouble! There is one more concern of mine though, and that is there seems to be some dispute over Netflix - the tutorial indicates that the result of the box is a 4K ready streaming device, but some things I've seen imply that HD playback does not work on Netflix with this set up. Anyone know? |
