Pinephone software - Csanderson0313 - 07-04-2026

Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well. I have been away from pinephone for quite a while but starting back with it again. What is the most stable Software out for it? I have noticed that the Pinephone pro is no longer being made. It does not seems like they made it very long. What is everyone thoughts on the future of PinePhone? Does everyone think it has a long and bright future?

Thank You
Chris

short:

production of pinephone pro has been ended. pinephone regular has outdated gpu, which means low support from modern software, although basics seem to still work. pinephone regular starts to be super slow by today's standards. basically both devices has been ended in some way, but community still keeps software for some time.

postmarketos seems to be most stable, then mobian, then danct's archlinux.

there is no plans for future models. but i wish there would be pinephone 2, which goes somewhere between  pp regular and pp pro with bigger screen and battery.

Thank you for your reply. It definitely seems like Pinephone is slowly dissolving which I really hate to see. I think Pinephone could really become something big if enough time is put into it including updating the hardware on the phone. I tried going to Mobian and the page is down to download it. I have been thinking of buying a USA version of opensource phone but very expensive.

Thank you
Chris

It's pretty much official that there is not going to be a next-generation Pinephone. From the Pine64 blog about FOSDEM 2026:

https://pine64.org/2026/03/24/march_2026_fosdem/#where-is-the-pinephone-2

I've had my Pinephone for over 5 years and it's still working fine for my purposes. Assuming no hardware failures that I don't have or can't get spare parts for, what will knock it down for me is if 4G service is discontinued. (I bought the Pinephone because 3G service was halted and I didn't care for the Google-laden flip phone my service provider sent me to replace my old dumb phone.)

At that point it's probably going to have to be a de-Googled Android phone running something like GrapheneOS or iodé.
