Alpha One - no connectivity directly out of the box. - anoduck - 12-06-2025 Purchased an Alpha One, took it out of the box, plugged in the Ethernet cord, inserted a blank SD Card, and the provided power cable. Noticed from only one of the two lights were blinking on the Ethernet port, and checked to see if it had an IP Address. It identified that it did, so I tried to ssh into the box, but the connection timed out. So then I went and performed an ARP scan to see if it was online, and it did not respond to the scan. Performed a ping test, which timed out, and then noticed the Alpha One had disappeared from my network topography map. It did this "vanishing act" one other time a few days later, but for the most part it has remained unreachable. I then went out attempting to troubleshoot the problem via a USB to Serial Adapter, which meant I had to create one, then I had to fabricate a mount for a CPU cooler, purchase thermal paste, and open up the Alpha One to install it all including connect the serial to USB adapter to the pins, but that is a different story. Repeated attempts to try to configure the network proved unsuccessful, until the decision to reflash the entire board with the official image was reached. This was performed to the letter as instructed by RockOS, here. The result of which was no change. Neither could the board obtain connectivity, nor could anything connect to it. I have yet to attempt configuration of the Wi-Fi interface, but achieving a working network connection by Ethernet is of a greater concern. I am trying everything I can to troubleshoot the issue, but it is becoming more and more likely the board itself arrived defective, and I just happened to be unfavored by the luck of the draw. |
