trixie update poll questions suggestions - j_s - 10-04-2025

I want to post a poll asking whether or if they are updating trixie installs once they find a weekly build that mostly works for them. It seems like polls almost always omit some important op tion, so I am going to throw some out there and am asking for suggested improvements and additions. The question is addressed to users, not developers/testers.

If you have mobian trixie installed, do you regularly update it?

1. Yes, with apt(-get) or the Software app.

2. Yes, by reflashing a more recent weekly build.

3. Yes, other reason (please specify in a post).

4. No, I don't want to risk breakage and don't want to reflash or wait for a fix.

5. No, other reason (please specify in a post).

Hello

I'm both an occasional minor contributor (developer) and a user. Actually, I'm in the two first situations, I update with apt almost daily, I have to use a weekly build when I can't use Full Disk Encryption and when I break something that I don't succeed in repairing, and I use an installer with Full Disk Encryption when available but there's only an installer for Mobian Bookworm, there's no installer for Mobian Trixie and upgrading from Bookworm to Trixie has become very difficult even for me who has worked as an engineer in computer science for almost 2 decades.

Thank you for the information.

Are you saying that apt-get upgrade has never broken anything for you?

Do you use upgrade or full-upgrade?

Are the most recent weekly images (2025-10-19) forky or trixie?

Sometimes, the upgrade breaks on Mobian Trixie, be prepared, make some backup.

I use both full and not full.

The most recent weekly images are Mobian Trixie images, not Forky, I can confirm as I installed Mobian again on 2 Pinephones several minutes ago.

I installed the phosh August 31 weekly pinephone image some weeks ago and have done update/upgrade a few times since. A few minutes ago I did an update then full-upgrade. Does that mean my pinephone is at least as up to date as the latest weekly image?

It means that you're somehow up-to-date with the repositories but not necessarily up-to-date as the latest weekly image. Some weekly images don't work at all.
