many distros getting too "heavy" for the PPP hardware; which runs well for you? - dchang0 - 07-16-2025

I've been distro-hopping and am trying out PostmarketOS 25 with Plasma right now.

It's nice but man is it slow/laggy. Push a button, count out loud 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000 and then the action happens.

So far, the only highly-performant current-day distro I have found is PostmarketOS 24 with SXMO de Sway. That's fast, but of course that's not too surprising given that it is running a window manager and not a desktop environment.

What else out of current-day distros run decently? I'd like to try them.

Thanks!

I feel like Mobian Trixie is fast enough for having most of the mobile specific bells and whistles.  Some apps like the audio book reader or maps take a bit and there is still the issue of power management, we have a big battery but talking on the telephone or surfing will use up the battery in about an hour with a hot brick on your ear as you talk.

I am pleased with DanctNIX Arch with Phosh. I did a full update a week ago and everything keeps getting faster.

Here is a video me using it

Device: PinePhonePro (Daily driver)
OS: DanctNIX Arch with Phosh

Thanks--I'll try DanctNIX Arch with Phosh again. Mobian Trixie was faster than the current PostmarketOS with Plasma I'm trying now, but not as fast as the PostmarketOS with SXMO de Sway...
