Are you interested in a new design of Pine laptop? - CleanEnvironment - 04-22-2025

Hi Pine designers,

Are you or anyone interested in designing a pine laptop extending from Pine64 phone to support 4G (5G) VoLTE and WiFi? The hardware and peripheral can be similar to GPD Pocket, a more powerful CPU,  keyboard, Ethernet, USB A, USB C and HDMI, the size can be around 10 inches, support Linux distributions.

If anyone is interested, I am happy to voluntarily join the design and development, more details can be discussed privately

I would love a refreshed Pinebook Pro or a Pinebook Pro 2. Its nice having a M.2 NVME slot inside of the laptop, but I would really love to see a motherboard that i can swap out into my existing Pinebook Pro that has a updated SOC, either with some more cores, IE: 8 cores vs the 6 we got now, or some newer cores with a little bit of a speed boost, and some more ram, 4GB does not really cut it much anymore for trying to use this little laptop as a 'daily driver'.

Lots of other SBC's can be found with newer SOCs and 8GB or more of DDR5 ram in the $200 to $300 price range.

Otherwise the rest of the Pinebook Pro is nice, the screen is nice, the keyboard and track pad is nice.
I accidentally dropped it not too long ago, but thankfully getting a replacement keyboard shell was cheap and got the broken bits of plastic replaced so I could use it again.
I have no issues with the WiFi, and the only SIM card I have is staying in my phone so I cant speak for 4G/5G connectivity, but realistically speaking there is still plenty of real-estate left over inside the Pinebook Pro for other addons that could be worked into a refreshed design.

But unfortunately when ever I poke my head around Pinebook Pro discussions, it doesnt seem to be too lively, so I dont know much interest is left in this little laptop, which is a shame, because I love it.

Agree, 4 GB RAM is not enough, if they come up with a better device i would also be interested to buy one.
