troubleshooting sleep/wake button on trixie - biketool - 04-05-2025

Every few weeks after an apt update the wake/sleep button does not work, the next update usually fixes it but still would like to have a hand fix ready to go as it is such a frequent problem.
If anyone knows the /dev that is attached to this switch as well as the place it is communicating with the os.
when the button is broken in OS I cant just look in journalctl and dmesg -w as itis not triggering(I looked)
How to trigger a wake event form CLI/SSH? One trick is often plugging in USB power or unplugging usually gets me the login screen;
Since I am mostly in home office I can just keep the sleep turned off with the caffeine button and wait for the next update but that wont work if I have to go mobile.

So the wake switch is back working after sitting for about 12 hours (IDK) caffeine button was active whe I left it on the charger, caffeine was no longer active when I went to use the phone later and button was working.
FWIW I don't see an event trigger on button press when I am running dmesg -w

off topic it is interesting to watch the power scaling as it turns off all but one CPU which probably leads to the better audiobook(blanked screen/locked) battery life in the last few weeks.

Same problem here on bookworm. Power on button works on startup, when the phone is off. So its not a hardware issue.When mobian started, the button is ignored. Then the phone goes to sleep mode. No reaction from the power button. When i plug the USB cable with power, the phone wake up, i can use it normally. Then the phone goes to sleep with the USB cable plugged. No reaction from the power button. I must unplug the USB cable again to wake up the phone... N.B. : This works only with a USB cable delivering power... So this huge bug makes the phone unusable. Help !

# uname -a

Linux mobian 6.1-sunxi64 #1 SMP Thu Dec 21 11:25:32 UTC 2023 aarch64 GNU/Linux

# dpkg -l|grep linux-image
...

It is not a real fix, but you can use a power bank to be able to power up your phone anywhere wheresoever using the USB cable method.

Power is not the problem in this case, it is that the signal from the sleep/wake/power switch is not triggering the sleep/wake event sometimes when the phone is booted into Phosh.
Using a usb cable or removing it simply triggers a usable wake event in the UI when the switch triggering is not working, a hold switch to kill system and rebooting is very dirty but also works.

My point was that:

can be worked around using a power bank, so that you can have the USB cable deliver power on the go.
