New PineNote: No WiFi after wakeup from suspend - j_s - 12-19-2024

I received my new Pinenote last week and have been slowly working my way through the docs and hitting some speed bumps.

The most bothersome so far is that the WiFi device does not show up after a wakeup from sleep. Its button doesn't even show up in the config menu (but
the bluetooth button remains present. Powering off, then turning it back on to boot brings WiFi back, but it is gone after the next suspend/resume.

I can't find any mention of this problem. Is anyone else seeing it?

Is there a fix? (Upgrading with apt did not help.)

Odd, I have not experienced that on my PineNote (recent order) which is running (as per Settings / System / About) Debian GNU/Linux trixie/sid.

Gnome 47 running Wayland with 6.12.0-rc2-pinenote-202410092341 kernel.

I did allow it to do an update (hat this, lets not follow windows stupidity).  Of course like all updates this makes you flinch when it reboots...then unexpectedly reboots again.  After one or two reboots, it stabilized.

My "sleep" mode is to press the button.  I think I disabled the automatic sleep.

Automatic = soon will break.  Sure it's insecure to not update.  Sure I'm missing the fixes/features you worked so hard on that you cannot conceptualize why I dont want them...
but...a manually scheduled update...say it's tax season and I need my stuff to work past taxes...then could break it.
Your "automatic" doesnt know what's going on in the world.  Just cause some big company suggests they should control the software on your device and update whenever they want...doesnt mean we have to.

Ok, back to the wifi.  Im connected 5gz auto connect.  Not that it matters.

I will turn on auto-sleep and see if wifi works when it comes back up.

What about the power button on/off (just tap it, dont hold it for long)?  Does that also disconnect wifi and not restore when it comes back on?  Ie is this only timeout sleep or any sleep?

Thank you for your reply. I'm running the same kernel.

I tend not to use the power button on devices unless necessary or particularly convenient to save wear and tear on the button and haven't used the cover yet because of the glue.

I've turned of autosuspend and use the button now and my PineNote still loses wifi after a sleep/wake cycle. I was about to decide I have fauly wifi hardware, but now I am leaning toward a problem reloading drivers during wake. When I remove some modules related to networking then modprobing them back, the wifi device and menu entries come back and wlan0 is present and up, but not up and no IP address.

I have the same problem here and hope it gets resolved soon.

I’m really pleasantly surprised by the device. The customizations made to GNOME are very much appreciated.

Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone. Sorry you have to also experience this.

It's also frustrating that the PineNote also ignores the USB-C hub sold for the PinePhone, so I can't even set up a wired network connection to make it easier to explore. Also, neither my laptop nor the PineNote notice when I connect them by USB, so I guess that USB netorking isn't possible.

Also, now sometimes no wifi after power up.
