Upgrade to Mobian (Trixie) Staging - biketool - 11-26-2024 Two questions... Firstly - I would like reports of people running Trixie unstable in late 2024 onward, is it ready for daily driving, how is phone audio, system stability, and phone call quality? Is the camera working? Secondly - the Mobian wiki does not give up-to-date instructions https://wiki.debian.org/Mobian/FAQ#How_do_I_switch_to_Mobian_Unstable.3F here is what https://repo.mobian-project.org/ looks like now, Code: ../ RE: Upgrade to Trixie Unstable? - Kevin Kofler - 11-26-2024 Trixie is the current testing, not unstable. Unstable is always sid. RE: Upgrade to Trixie Unstable? - Zebulon Walton - 11-26-2024 I'm not really sure what the benefit would be upgrading to Trixie, at least for someone like myself who only uses the phone for voice calls. The only things I can think of that might motivate me to upgrade would be if volume control during calls was fixed, or bluetooth audio was working. Bookworm has been pretty stable for my purposes. RE: Upgrade to Trixie Unstable? - biketool - 11-27-2024 I should be clear I am running Trixie now, it runs well even if 10 minutes of use can take 10-15% of the battery, people complain about my audio quality and I have no camera on PinePhonePro. If that is what we are doing now then it seems that the documentation about a working libcamera is on staging. https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/PINE64/PinePhonePro#Cameras Can anyone report the situation in staging as far as daily driver usability? It seems that editing trixie to staging and running apt update and apt dist-upgrade should work but I would prefer to get a confirmation before I break my install. I am backing up my PPp's / via tow-boot so I have a bit more freedom, it takes about 5 hours via USB! RE: Upgrade to Trixie Unstable? - biketool - 11-27-2024 This is my /etc/apt/sources.list (I added a #commented out my added staging line until ready to use) Code: deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian trixie main non-free-firmware but there is also /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mobian.list which also needs a line for staging so did same as above Code: deb http://repo.mobian.org/ trixie main non-free-firmware does this look good to switch sources to staging and run sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade? I tested my upgrade surces.list for upgrade to staging; it, doesn't work as I have done... 404 Not Found Any ideas? RE: Upgrade to Trixie Unstable? - anonymous - 11-27-2024 I use Trixie on my Pinephone (not a Pinephone pro) daily and it works like a charm. However, there's a part of subjectivity when evaluating the suitability for a daily use. In my humble opinion, the Pinephone under Mobian was already suitable for my daily use in 2020. SMS, phone calls, cameras... are working. I have never seriously considered going back to Bookworm since I switched to Trixie but I can't speak about Pinephone Pro. The fact that you asked "is it ready for daily driving" indicates that we may have different expectations. I won't buy another Android phone for sure. Sending MMS is still impossible for me. I plan to switch to the open source firmware, maybe it will help. Deleting a bookmark in Mozilla Firefox only works by pressing Shift + Control + O, by filtering to keep a single bookmark and by clicking on "Delete the bookmark", the star at the right side of the address bar displays the window under the virtual keyboard ![]() P.S: I can take pictures but I can't film yet. I have been running Trixie for about 9 months but on the PPpro the camera is still not working(wiki says it is working on staging) of more problem for me is that. Very usable but this could be my own settings, I can get a few hours out of a battery if I do anything with the phone. I have a PP runnign bookworm and think PP classic cameras have always worked on all versions of Mobian. I also have not been able to get MMS working, I think I had it on bookworm on PPclassic but that image is wiped. RE: Upgrade to Mobian (Trixie) Staging - biketool - 11-28-2024 Back to the question, is anyone running staging? If so what did you do to get staging running in Mobian nov/dec 2024 PinePhonepro. By the way, I met someone using the Pinephone Pro under Mobian 4 months ago and he succeeded in making both the cameras and the MMS work even with multiple Access Point Names. Have you tried that? https://www.reddit.com/r/pinephone/comments/x3cvun/cameras_working_in_megapixels_on_the_pinephone_pro/ RE: Upgrade to Mobian (Trixie) Staging - biketool - 12-03-2024 (12-02-2024, 05:49 AM)anonymous Wrote:(11-28-2024, 12:40 PM)biketool Wrote: Back to the question, is anyone running staging? Looks good, I got the git cloned and followed the instructions but ninja failed Code: Building Code: ninja: error: loading 'build.ninja': No such file or directory Code: ninja -f meson.build Code: ninja: error: meson.build:1: expected '=', got lexing error does this megapixels build also build libcamera and attach the pipewire stuff? (edit) Libcamera etc. is so you don't need a special build like this megapixels custom compiled for the PPpro cameras. Mobian Staging has libcamera already which is why that is the best solution. I still want to see how to get staging installed. |
