How to boot from SD card in PPP - joespodie - 08-02-2024

PPP = Pine Phone Pro.

I have tried to make this phone into a daily driver but so far I can't get it to even be a dumb phone. I did buy one of those 15 to 1 Linux SD card that has lots of choices for installing 15 different operating systems (P-Boot). Here is the problem. I put that SD card in the Pinephone Original and almost none of the operating system ever really worked as a phone first. But one was different. The Postmarket OS /Phosh. Man it works fantastic. It found the SIM card on the first boot and it had never failed to find and make and receive calls. It awesome. So then I switch the SD card to the Pinephone Pro and it will not boot from the SD card. It turns out only the original pinephone boots by default to the SD card, the Pro version does not. Why? I would like to boot with this 15 to 1 SD card in the Pro so I can try and the OS for all 15 of them and see which one works best on the Pro. Who knows, maybe it will end up being the same as the original, Postmarket OS / Phosh. I am OK with that but I would like to get the PPP to boot from the SD card. I have tried everything on here that I can find but maybe I am missing it because I am looking in the wrong place. Is there a good link that gives the steps to boot the Pro from the SD card first ?

You can find the wiki entry for booting a PPP from SD temporarily or permanently here: https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_Pro#Boot_from_microSD_card_temporarily

you'll need to determine which PPP you have, so you know which boot process instructions to follow.

The original PinePhone and PinePhonePro require different images (operating systems) to be loaded. PostmarketOS made for the PinePhone will not work on the Pro. You will need to reflash the correct OS for the Pro before inserting it into the Pro.

The PinePhonePro boot orders changes depending on the boot loader. Start with tophneal link above.
